Destination Weddings in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Getting married in Spain is always guaranteed to be a rich and varied experience and no less so than on the compact island of Tenerife.

Santa Cruz on the north eastern coast is the capital of Tenerife. Much of today’s transatlantic commerce passes through this busy port and sustains a bustling and cosmopolitan centre. It is a place that contrasts vividly with an agricultural interior dominated by banana plantations, fruit orchards and vineyards, the austere mountain range sweeping south that includes Spain’s highest peak Mount Teide and the high-rise holiday resorts of  the south.

Fiancées will have plenty to divert them as the finishing touches are made to their wedding arrangements in Tenerife. They can visit the Church of the Conception (Iglesia de la Concepión), noted for its six-story Moorish bell tower, or perhaps wander the colourful Market of Our Lady of Africa (Mercado de Nuestra Señora de Africa) looking for some native flowers to decorate their ceremony and wedding table. There’s a museum of fine arts for those in need of pre-ceremonial edification and nearby Las Teresitas beach to relax. On an out of town trip they might go to Icod de los Vinos to look for suitable wines in the tasting room of the Museum of Wine (Casa Museo del Vino)

After your marriage ceremony in Santa Cruz de Tenerife at a local church, the cathedral or a local beauty spot your reception could be held at the plush stucco-and-marble Luxury hotel or a local restaurant serving the best in Canary Island cuisine.

As newlyweds the next day the happy couple can embark on a journey around the island. To mention just a few places of interest the university town of Laguna nearby is a former capital that retains parts of old colonial Spain. Puerto de la Cruz is Tenerife’s oldest resort and contains the unique forerunner to modern waterparks Lago Martianez and Orotava Botanical gardens. Mount Teide will match even the emotions of honeymooners for height.
