Destination Weddings in Majorca
The preferred holiday and sailing venue of Spain’s King Juan Carlos and the largest of the Balearic Islands Majorca offers something for every wedding couple. The capital Palma combines impressive historical and cultural sites with great shopping and an exciting and vibrant nightlife. Around the island’s coast newly-weds can take it easy sipping cocktails on beautiful white sand beaches or they can stretch their legs in the rugged Tramuntana Mountains.
History buffs and culture vultures will be delighted by Majorca’s artistic pedigree. Two of Spain’s most famous sons, the painter Joan Miro and architect Antonio Gaudi, stayed in Palma. French composer Frederic Chopin and his lover George Sands (a female writer hidden behind a man’s name) put the charming town of Valdemossa on the map, and the writer Robert Graves contributed to the bohemian feel of the village Deia where he is buried.
It is no wonder that Majorca has proved an inspiration to so many. It is a place where several great cultures meet. Palma’s Gothic cathedral looks directly upon the Islamic palace, Palau de l'Almudaina and near the town of Alcudia the Romans left their inevitable mark, the ancient city of Polletia. The island can also boast some impressive natural phenomena including the Coves del Drac (Caves of the Dragon), a 2000 metre subterranean network full of artfully illuminated stalagtites and stalagmites and six underground lakes.
At the end of each day visiting the sights, hiking in the wilds or swimming, sailing or scuba diving in the crystal waters of the Mediterranean, why not take a romantic walk down the leafy Ramblas (pedestrian boulevards) in town. Stopping to relax on a café terrace you can sample local Majorcan wines and savour the freshest seafood cuisine. Time just to admire the sights of sounds of a warm Spanish night.
As a special souvenir of your destination wedding on the island you could do no better than purchase some Majorcan lace or a locally cultivated pearl or two.
