Destination Weddings in Seville

How many places in the world can say they were founded by the god Hercules?  Only one.  Seville, Spain.  If you are looking for a place filled with both romance and history there are few better choices than the vibrant and sparkling city of Seville.

Seville is located in Southern Spain along the banks of the Guadalquivir River.  Seville has more historical sites than virtually any other city in Europe.  Seville has been inhabited by many different cultures over the past 2000 or more years, including the Roman Empire and the Moors.  Each culture has left its mark, both architecturally as well as artistically, on this bustling and energetic city.

If you are fortunate enough to visit Seville in the Spring then you will be able to enjoy Holy Week and the religious festival of Semana Santa with its parades and ornate floats carrying images of Christ and the Virgin Mary.  The following week is the Feria de Abril which is a week long celebration of food and dancing and lots of good spirits and hundreds of small plays performed in tents all over the city, both day and night.

Be sure to visit the historic Old City of Seville.  Here you’ll find the Cathedral, one of the largest Christian Cathedrals in the world, and you’ll also find the Giralda tower, built by the Moors and carefully preserved when the town was recaptured.  The tower is one of the highest points in the city and the view from inside is truly awe-inspiring and not to be missed!

Another “don’t miss” landmark in Seville is the world-famous Plaza de Espana, built for the Spanish-American Exhibit of 1929.  The Plaza was a showcase of Spanish industry and a marvel of Spanish architecture.  In fact, the building is so visually breathtaking that George Lucas chose parts of it as the location of the “Royal Planet of Naboo” in one the STAR WARS films!

Seville is one of the most visually beautiful cities in all of Spain and one of the most romantic and exciting cities in all of Europe.  If you are considering tying the knot in Spain, you owe it to yourselves to at least check out all of the grace, charm, romance and splendor that the city of Seville has the offer.
